The first night of the Projekt Revolution tour. At the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Boston MA, Chris debuted two new songs "Watch Out" and "Long Gone" as well as new keyboard player Will Wesson and a great new stage backdrop featuring his famous autograph. Chris welcomed Chester Bennington of Linkin Park to sing with him on "Hunger Strike" and returned the favour for "Crawling" during Linkin Park's set.

Set List

Cochise - No Such Thing - Black Hole Sun - Spoonman - Hunger Strike - Watch Out - Show Me How to Live - Like a Stone - Long Gone - Blow up the Outside World - What You Are - Rusty Cage

Chris and the band came out with lots of energy and really got the crowd going with Cochise. Chris’s voice sounded amazing, as did the band. He never ceases to amaze me, there’s no one else I’d rather see live! Then they went into No Such Thing and even though there were probably a fair amount of people who didn’t know that song at all, you would not have guessed it, he kept the place rocking. Then came Black Hole Sun which got everyone singing along. Spoonman was next, which is one of my favorites to hear live, partly because when I saw him last April (the first time ever seeing him solo) that was the song he opened with, so it brings back great memories. Then came Hunger Strike (another crowd favorite) and when Chester came out to sing with CC people really went crazy!

Next was the brand new Watch Out and it sounded so good and had a really great energy live, it kicked ass. My husband, who is very skeptical of the Timbaland collaboration and hadn’t heard any clips of the new songs at that point said to me after the song was done, well that one was good! And I think a little of his skepticism started to go away... I’m still working on that =).

After that they went into 2 Audioslave tunes, Show Me How to Live and Like a Stone, followed by another new track Long Gone. I really, really love CC’s vocals on this song. There’s something really beautiful about it and I feel like it is going to end up being one of my favorite songs of his. (And my husband liked it too.)

They played Blow up the Outside World next, which I believe he said hadn’t been played live in 10+ years. (This was the song that the crowd voted on to hear before the show.) It ended with Chris demanding the crowd to “sing it!”, which of course we all did. He closed with Rusty Cage and just totally belted it out. I thought the setlist was a good mix, considering that he could only play 12 songs (and that’s just not enough!) and that he needed to appeal to a bunch of people who didn’t go there just to see him. I was really happy to hear the 2 new songs live, and now I’m looking forward to hearing the new album more than ever. During Linkin Park’s set, CC came out to sing on Crawling. Now every time I hear that song, I will hear CC’s voice!

The show was fucking amazing! I mainly went to see Chris Cornell, but I also enjoy Linkin Park. Chris Cornell sounded great and I actually got teary eyed because I had never seen him live before. He also came back later and sang "Crawling" with Linkin Park. I had no idea how intense Chris Cornell can sing those high notes still, he really blew me away. Overall, he sounded great. I especially loved his intensity during Rusty Cage.

It seemed a large majority of fans were just there to see Linkin Park, but there were still a large number of CC fans and I was pleasantly surprised to hear people playing Chris Cornell songs in the parking lot while tailgating before the show. I was a little surprised he only played one song from Carry On, and mostly just played his popular old school songs. Fans were given the opportunity during the show to vote via text message for him to play 1 of 4 songs that he doesn't play often (Blow Up the Outside World, Loud Love, Can't Change Me, or Set it Off). Blow Up the Outside world won this time. I have a feeling most people who voted didn't even know what the songs were.

The new songs sounded alright, very similar to the snippets we heard but with the live band and no overproduction. I liked Long Gone more than Watch Out, even though Watch Out was much more rocking. The whole song of Watch Out was similar to the snippet, but longer and I remember CC whispering "Watch Out" a lot near the end of the song. Certainly, the songs were better with a live band. Still, when played between all his other songs they seemed kind of out of place and weren't the highlights of his set to me.

Enter Chris Cornell in the penultimate main stage spot, with a surprising set culled heavily from his Soundgarden years before he joined alt-rock supergroup Audioslave. Aided by five young guns-for-hire, Cornell cooed through the psychedelic haze of "Black Hole Sun," belted out "Spoonman," and even revived Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike," on which he was joined by Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, who sang Eddie Vedder's parts. Only then did Cornell broach his Timbaland-produced solo record, "Scream," due this fall. One new song, "Watch Out," had a wiry guitar riff and a tricky Latin tempo to the chorus. Following Audioslave's "Show Me How to Live," a less engaging new ballad, "Long Gone," was dispensed, capped by Soundgarden's early and magnificent "Rusty Cage."

Ex-Soundgarden and Audioslave front man Chris Cornell followed with a strong hour of old and new material, from “Black Hole Sun” to songs off his upcoming third solo disc. Cornell’s cool Euro look and hard, angelic vocals still get girls gushing and guys envying - especially when Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington joined him for Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike.”
